Top 5 Reasons Why Someone Hires a Personal Stylist

When people find out that I’m a personal stylist, they react in one of two ways. The most common reaction is “OH MY GOSH that’s so cool!! You must love your job!” (I do!). The other reaction is “…really? People actually want that?”

Yes, they definitely do. And my clients are in various age and income brackets, and have a huge range of careers and/or roles.

So, allow me to share with you the top 5 reasons why someone hires a personal stylist.

  1. They hate everything in their closet.
Sometimes they hate everything, because this person hasn’t refreshed their closet since before they had kids. If you’re a parent, you know how much your life, your body, and you change once you become a parent. It’s easy for your own closet to get away from you, especially when you’re constantly buying new clothes for your kiddo(s) as they are growing nonstop.

Another reason they might hate everything in their closet is because they might not own the correct sizes. Do you know how much more enjoyable getting dressed can be when you have clothes that fit?

Sometimes people end up hating what’s in their closet, because the styles they own are dated, and no longer align with their personality. This could refer to clothes that were trendy, but aren’t anymore, or clothes that used to match the lifestyle you lived prior to where you are now.
  2. They’re tired of hating their body.
    Aren’t we all?

The truth is if you hate your body, you won’t love how anything looks on it. If you hate your body, you’re not alone but this doesn’t have to be your reality or your constant. When you work with a personal stylist, specifically me, you’ll start looking at your body as it is now, instead of continuing to wish you looked different. We focus on what you like, instead of what you hate, and your focus starts to shift.
  3. A recent life transition has occurred for them.
This could be starting a new job, getting married or divorced, moving, your kids starting school, making a career pivot, etc. It’s the perfect time to reassess what you really need, and find clothes that support your new life. Do the clothes that you have from your old life support your new one? Probably not. When your life changes, your needs change, and your clothes add to that foundation.
  4. Most of my clients don’t have time to shop, or they just don’t like it.
This is probably the most common. None of us have enough time in the day, and it’s okay to ask for help. Think about the amount of time you waste shopping online, ordering a bunch of things to try, and then having to return most of it. It’s one of the most frustrating “time sucks”, because you could be spending that time doing literally anything else. We order things online, because it’s easier than going to the store, but if you don’t know how to find clothes you love that will also fit, it’s a losing battle. The truth of it is that you just want getting dressed to be easy. And that’s ok! That’s what I’m here for.
  5. They can never find the right size.
Another very common reason I hear a lot. It usually sounds like “I can never find jeans that fit.” “My body is hard to dress.” “I just can’t tuck in my shirt, because it always looks weird.” None of those statements are true, it’s just that you don’t really know what size you like to wear. Wearing the “right” (comfortable) sized clothing can be the difference between feeling confident and comfy vs. restricted and self-conscious. Don’t set yourself up for failure by keeping something in your closet that’s a size too small. Get rid of it and buy something you love that you can wear NOW!

You might be surprised by one or multiple of these reasons why people hire a personal stylist, and maybe you can even relate to that. If you’re ready to make your personal style align with who you really are, let’s talk.
