Hops and Kin
As soon as Jes, Emily, and I saw pictures of the inside of Hops, we knew we had to get in there for a Fashion + Food shoot. This shoot has been a long time coming!
Brewerytown is the next up and coming neighborhood in Philly, and I have a strong feeling that Hops Brewerytown will help with its rise in popularity. Hops is a bar that’s equally inviting, with its decor having both masculine and feminine elements. The structure of Hops is industrial, but there’s also a softness to it, with light pink being a common color throughout the space.
When it comes to HOPS, there’s an immediate “it” factor. It’s not just a restaurant or just a bar. It has three bars, pool tables, couches along with tables for dining, and the whole place just radiates cool.
I chose to use clothes from Kin boutique for this shoot, because their clothes are feminine and trendy for the cool girl in the city. The styles in Kin are perfect for the woman who wants to feel strong, confident, and sexy, while making it all look so easy. I mean, their tagline on their website says, “High end fashion, without the drama.”
It’s easy to just show up at a new restaurant in distressed jeans and cool top. (That’s one of my personal staple looks for my style.) But, I wanted the outfits for this shoot to hold some power. That vibe totally came through in the shots that Jes captured in our fierce models, and I love it.
My favorite part of the HOPS decor has to be the hops mural by the front bar. This mural was created by Sean Martorana. Check out his work when you get a chance, or stop by Hops and see it in person.
Of course, the hot colors for spring/summer 2019 are red and yellow. Find your shade and own it! Personally, when it comes to yellows, I love a strong mustard yellow, or goldenrod like the color of Katt’s skirt.
For reds, I prefer reds with a blue undertone (rather than an orange undertone). My fellow ladies with an olive complexion, opt for the blue-reds. It’s a game changer.
If you’re concerned about how a bold color like red or yellow will look with your coloring, opt for it in a piece that is further away from your face – like a skirt, shoes, or accessory. You won’t feel as overwhelmed by the color if it’s not right by your face.
Kin made my dreams come true by having these two pieces in their shop when I came by to pull for this shoot. This sheer jacket and little red dress combo, gave me ALL of the Clueless vibes, and I loved every second Emily was wearing it.
The sheer jacket reminded me completely of this scene, in case you’re clueless about what I’m referencing. Also, that clip is worth a rewatch just to see how adorable Paul Rudd has always been.
