It should come as no surprise that I love astrology, and using that as a lens to get to know my clients and where they are on their style journey. How do you handle getting rid of your clothes? Are you ruthless when you’re going through your closet, or do you find yourself getting emotional? Here’s what your astrological sign says about your closet, and how you approach a closet edit.

Here are some of the typical reactions from my clients based on their astrological sign.

Let me set the scene. I’m arriving at my client’s house for their closet session. Here are their initial reactions:

Aries: I “rage cleaned” my closet before you got here, and now I don’t have any clothes left. Let’s go shopping.

Taurus: Does it look cheap? Get rid of it. I’m ready for better options.

Gemini: I need versatility in my closet. If I can’t dress it down for the weekend, dress it up for a date night, and wear it to a parent-teacher conference, I don’t want it.

Cancer: I’ll get rid of whatever you think is best. (then cries for 3 weeks while mourning the loss of their clothes)

Leo: I only want to keep what looks good on me … ok, it all looks good on me. ((does hair flip))

Virgo: Did you see how neat my closet is?? Everything is organized by type and color, with its special place, matching hangers, evenly spaced…

Libra: But I LOVE them ALL! Ok fine, we can get rid of some things… but not that… ok maybe that… but what if I need to wear it again!

Scorpio: You’re only allowed in my closet, because I googled you, read your entire website, and followed you on all social media platforms. ((stands with arms crossed))

Sagittarius: I got this dress when I was in Bali, and these shoes are from Italy, and this purse is from this cute boutique in LA…

Capricorn: I’m over it. All of it. Let’s go.

Aquarius: I’ll only let you look at my clothes if you can properly appreciate my eclectic style and my vintage collection.

Pisces: I just really love all of it, please don’t make me get rid of it… what if my great aunt finds out that I got rid of that sweater that she gave me??

What It All Means

Most likely to be emotionally attached to their clothes: Pisces, Libra, Leo, Cancer

Secret Hoarders: Leo, Cancer, Taurus, Sagittarius,

Always ready to purge their closet: Capricorn, Virgo, Taurus, Aries, Scorpio, Gemini

Fine with getting rid of their clothes as long as there’s a backup/replacement: Taurus, Gemini, Sagittarius

And now for some advice to help it all go smoother.

Pisces, Libra, Sagittarius, Leo, Cancer: I know it’s hard to part with your pieces. You feel connected to them, but it’s really just the memories you associate with them, not the clothes themselves. Create a list of the pieces that you’re getting rid of, so that you know what you’ll need to replace when you start shopping. Using your list to find replacement pieces will help you

Capricorn, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Scorpio, Virgo, Aquarius: You find it relatively easy to part with your clothes, because you don’t get too attached. What’s important for you to consider is to not make decisions too quickly or hastily – whether it involves getting rid of clothes or buying new ones. Remember that you should LOVE everything in your closet, so when you go shopping, make sure you love what you’re bringing home.
