Stylist's Guide to Fall Fashion Trends

I’m biased because, to me, dressing for Fall is THE BEST. Boots and heavier shoes come out to play with summery looks that you want to wear just a few more times before it’s time to bring out the heavier coats. (In the Northeast at least!) Over the last couple of seasons, there have been some fun retro styles coming back and that’s true for Fall too – think fun button-up shirts, structured blazers, and not-your-grandma’s loafers. Let’s take a look at some major trends that are super easy to find and will (truly) fit with any wardrobe.

Statement Button Ups & Blouses

Vince Camuto Floral Print Tie Neck Blouse ($89)

Madewell Corduroy Sweetheart Smocked-Back Top ($88)

If you’ve always thought of button ups as being stuffy/boring, rethink that asap. A bold print or statement detail makes this classic come back in a brand new way. Style tucked-in to wide leg or balloon cut “mom” jeans, or dress it up with a gorgeous pencil skirt and heels. I’m also a huge fan of knotting the front of a button up, doing a french tuck or a half tuck, and almost always cuffing or at least zhuzhing the sleeves.

Goth Garden Florals

House of Harlow 1060 x REVOLVE Labeaux Maxi Dress ($258)

Baltic Born Rebecca Maxi Dress ($75)

1460 Pascal Floral Mash Up Lace-Up Boot ($160)

Listen, goths can love florals too. It’s all about connecting to the energy of the earth and manifesting that power and owning the femininity associated with florals. So yes, bring on the goth garden floral looks for fall– plus, all these options will work in winter with your favorite leather jacket and/or boots!

Shearling + Sherpa Jackets

Topshop Faux Leather Oversized Shearling Jacket ($139)

Anthropologie Pilcro Faux Leather Sherpa-Lined Jacket ($188)

Levis XL Sherpa Trucker Jacket ($128)

Perfect for nights when the Fall chill really sets in, get cozy in a jacket with shearling or sherpa detail. If you’re afraid that these will make you look “puffy”…. 1. Everyone deserves to be warm and 2. The blend of materials in all of these jackets will create extra visual interest. Just make sure you get the right size so you can zip/button it up, or leave it open so it’ll drape more casually. For an extra detail, look for an asymmetric zip or piping detail.

Bold Oversized Blazers

Anthropologie Maeve Oversized Plaid Equestrian Blazer ($180)

Revolve Chloe Faux Leather Blazer ($140)

Everlane The 80’s Blazer ($175)

Work? Yes. Formal dinner? Yes. Party attire? YES. Statement blazers are the perfect way to balance staying warm, wearing a piece that’s both structured AND forgiving, and bringing some high fashion to an everyday look. And no, you don’t need matching pants or a skirt– rock your blazer with a cute mini or close fitting dress, jeans and a plain tee, or elegantly drape over your favorite jumpsuit.

Subtlety is Overrated Loafers

Madewell Maguire Leather Sintra Loafers ($235)

Michael Kors Rory Two-Tone Leather Loafer ($125)

Freebird Mabel Loafer ($195)

Loafers are FUN and can be the perfect transition shoe between all seasons! Have some fun by choosing a style with a heel, plenty of studs or hardware, or two colors/textures to add an awesome and modern pop.
