A trip to NYC involves making plans in all the ways we couldn’t during 2020 (and part of 2021). Going out to eat is one of the best parts about being in NYC. Traveling to and packing for a weekend in NYC means embracing elevated looks. Daytime is elevated casual, and nighttime it’s polished. Your outfits will look very NY if your pieces have modern silhouettes, clean lines, and on trend colors mixed with neutrals. (Another option is to try out a new trend you’ve been too shy to wear in your hometown.)
What to pack so you avoid overpacking:
Think about your pieces in terms of daytime or nighttime. Let’s plan your weekend. You arrive Friday afternoon, get situated in your airbnb, and get ready for dinner.
Friday night dinner:
- Dress, jumpsuit, or pants with an elevated top
- Accessories that sparkle or shine
- An elevated shoe/heel
- A smaller bag to just hold the necessities
Saturday, you sleep in a little, and before you leave for your fun filled day, you put on an outfit to explore the city. Grab a bodysuit, a pair of lightweight trousers in a linen blend, a comfortable platform sandal, fun earrings and a necklace, and a belt bag. For those of us having “fanny pack” flashbacks, don’t worry, you can wear a cool, on trend belt bag as a cross body bag or wear it over the shoulder too. After spending the day around the city, you’ll want to go back to your homebase to get changed before going out to dinner. For Saturday’s dinner, you’ll want another elevated outfit like you wore for the previous night.
Sunday, you’ll definitely want to grab brunch before you head back home. Plan your Sunday brunch outfit to complement mimosas and french toast – bright, cheerful, and comfortable all in one outfit/meal.
To recap, here’s what to pack:
- Two nighttime, elevated outfits for dinner
- Dresses, jumpsuits, and/or pants with an elevated top
- shiney/sparkly jewelry
- Small clutch
- Dressy shoes
- Two daytime outfits, elevated casual
- Lightweight trousers
- Bodysuit
- Platform sandals you can walk in comfortably
- Belt bag or crossbody bag
- Bright and cheery brunch dress
- Minimal accessories
- On trend bag
