Wearing White After Labor Day: A Stylist’s Thoughts

September 3, 2018

This time of year always brings out the debate regarding whether or not it’s acceptable to wear white after Labor Day. As a professional, I’m here to tell you, IT’S FINE! Seriously, calm down. It’s not a real rule.

Where did this lame rule originate, anyway?

Sometime in the late 1800’s, women needed to find another way to exclude other women. So, they created a nonsense rule. “It’s not acceptable to wear white after Labor Day.” Now imagine this being said with a lot of vocal fry, “We only wear white for weddings and resort wear.” If women wore their white clothes for other occasions and/or after Labor Day, they were judged. They were viewed as “less than”, because they didn’t have other options. (Imagine what they would think of a capsule wardrobe.)

Long story short, the rule is bullshit, and even Coco Chanel (my kitten’s namesake) thought so.

So, I put together a catalog of outfit options, just for you to feel more comfortable wearing white into fall! Check them out, and let me know if you have any favorites!

I’ve always been intrigued by the rule. Especially when we lived in Texas and summer didn’t feel like it ended until December LOL. At least in the Philadelphia area, it will get a little cooler sooner (one can hope anyway).

I like the Animal Print Pajama top.

Love that someone is will to say that wearing white after labor day is a silly thing.

I help dress your soul, and allow you to step into your higher self. You’ve already done most of the work – our time to work together occurs as one of the final steps before your transformation. Does that sound a little scary? It’s ok, you’ll always feel supported through the entire process. My goal is for you to love everything in your closet, and to feel incredible every time you get dressed.
